This series of booklets was produced for the Children’s Institute, a non-profit organization to benefit underprivileged children and their families. Each booklet addresses a different issue that affects low-income communities in Rio de Janeiro, such as health, the environment, family planning, and what it means to be a citizen.

The target audience for the booklets is primarily people who are not regular readers, and whose visual references are limited. In the inside pages I used several universally recognizable visual elements to facilitate and encourage non-linear, or skim reading, such as speech bubbles, boxes and tables. For the covers, I selected an iconic and easily identifiable image for each topic, and combined it with the Institute’s rich color palette to build a different and unique color combination for each cover, while still maintaining a consistent design aesthetic across all the booklets.
