I taught myself CSS in 2004. A the time I was living and working in Brazil, where I had never heard of Wed Standards before. When I moved to New York in 2007 I quickly realized that I was a few years behind, and so I started learning how to write clean, structural HTML and totally separating CSS as a presentation layer. One of the exercises I did at the time was to build my own CSS Zen Garden theme.

This theme was designed before web fonts became ubiquitous, so I still used image replacement for all the headings. In spite of that, it’s great to see that so many years later this theme still works quite beautifully in all modern browsers.
