Wake Up World

Wake Up World Website

Wake Up World is a parody of a morning show created by Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead and produced by Shoot the Messenger. It is America’s only six-hour morning show, bringing you “half the content in twice the time”.

In 2008, I did the first redesign for their website. At the time, the priority was to better organize the content and to present Wake Up World as a live show in New York. However, the show soon started to produce some great videos for the web, so we needed Wake Up World to be more of a web show than a theater production. The current design aims to meet this demand.

I first had to go through the ordeal of analyzing real morning shows’ websites. After hours of visual clutter, bad color schemes, over the top designs, and confusing user interface, I came up with a cleaner, more organized content structure and interface, while trying to keep some of the in-your-face features of a morning show through the use of strong colors. The result is vibrant, user friendly website, with a focus on videos, but with some space for the other funny written content as well.

In order to allow for easy updating, the website was developed in Expression Engine.
